Proyecto Neolítico

  • Project’s name: HAR2011-23149: “APROXIMACION A LAS PRIMERAS COMUNIDADES NEOLITICAS DEL N-E PENINSULAR A TRAVES DE SUS PRACTICAS FUNERARIAS” (First neolithic comunities in the north east of the iberian peninsula. Studies based on funerary practices)
  • Type: R+D project.
  • Principal investigator: John F. Gibaja Bao (Milà i Fontanals Institution CSIC), Maria Eulalia Subirà (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
  • Summary: The project’s main objective is to understand several aspects of early farming societies that occupied the north-eastern iberic peninsula between VI and IV millenium BC (the so-called “Cultura de los Sepulcros de Fosa”). The project also tries to set out economic, social and ideological explanations about this society. The research focuses on funerary practices as they are the main archeological remains of this culture.
  • Lines of investigation:
    • Burial chronologic contextualization to define this period.
    • Anthropological studies of the skeletons buried in these sites.
    • Study of the tools deposited as grave goods.
    • Spatial analysis (GIS) of the graves in order to establish distribution patterns based on different criteria.

Arrago participates in this project by providing human and technical resources for the study of the sites that have been excavated and are integrated in it. These are: Can Gambús-1, Horts Can Torras and Plaça Major de Castellar del Vallès.

Jordi Roig Buxó and Joan-Manuel Coll are leading the next research subjects:

  • Necropolis of Can Gambús-1 (Sabadell, Vallès Occ.) archaeological studies.
  • Necropolis of Can Gambús-2 (Sabadell, Vallès Occ.) ceramic studies.
  • Necropolis Can Gambús-1  (Sabadell, Vallès Occ.) ceramic studies
  • Necropolis of Bòbila Madurell (Sabadell, Vallès Occ.) ceramic studies.
  • Site of Horts Can Torres (Castellar del Vallès, Vallès Occ.) archaeological and ceramic studies.
